Because of the Covid-10 pandemic, WPS has had to cancel all of its “in-person” support groups due to state and health mandated restrictions. We also recognize the need to continue to provide support, encouragement, and education to widowed persons so they are able to move forward on their grief journey in order to rebuild their lives while honoring the past. We are hoping that at some point in the future, we can resume in-person support groups, but also see this as an opportunity to reach others who may not be able to attend in person because of young children, work conflicts, etc. This new, online educational, support group will be facilitated by Dr. Susan Zonnebelt-Smeenge (psychologist and R.N.) and Dr. Robert DeVries (pastor and seminary prof, emeritus). Bob and Susan, both widowed at mid-life, have written four books on working through grief and on dying. For over 20 years, Bob and Susan have been involved in WPS crafting curriculum used in our annual support group programs and have served as consultants, advisors, and supporters of WPS continuously through these years. Together, their personal and professional experience on spousal grief and overcoming the loss of a spouse is remarkable, thoughtful, encouraging, and comes from the heart. Susan and Bob have experience hosting online support groups. Together with the WPS facilitators, we are going to evolve with the situation and continue to make changes, to best meet the needs of those we support. It is my hope that you will embrace these changes moving forward.
They will be conducting a 4 week series of online meetings from June 2, through June 23, 2020. (Tuesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.) using the “Zoom Meeting platform” which is quite simple and easy to use.
If you are grieving the death of your spouse, you can find comfort, hope, and helpful self-care suggestions by attending these 4 online sessions (or as many as you can.)
